    Joo Chiat Beef King

Joo Chiat Beef King serves dishes such as beef tendon kway teow, braised beef tendon and beef ball soup.

Hidden gem in FC. The owner is very generous in meat portion wise. Meat was tender and well-cooked. Can taste the broth in the soup.

    Peck Hwan Eating House

This is a very popular Teochew porridge stall located at Toa Payoh. They are only open for late breakfast/ lunch and close around 1.45pm or when the food runs out.

The stall has a range of dishes available: Stingray, braised tau pok/ pork belly/ pig intestines, minced pork with ‘tau cheo’, fish cake, bittergourd, stewed cabbage, steamed fish, hae bee (spicy dried prawns) and more.

My favorites are: braised tau pok/ pig intestines, fish cake, bittergourd, stewed cabbage. You can help yourself to plain porridge or rice that’s always laden into bowls on the side of the stall.

What’s interesting is the stall holder will always apologise for the long wait for his food and he will serve you diligently. If the best parts of the braised duck are not available, he would rather tell you that it’s sold out than sell you the parts that are bony with little meat.

They also do not collect money from you after you have ordered your food. You take your food to your table, eat it and then beckon the aunty to come over for the bill. Here, it’s a trust system. I guess this system has not failed them given that they ave been in business for some time.

18 Zion Road Fried Kway Teow

18 Zion Road Fried Kway Teow is one of the main reasons why so many of us flock to Zion Riverside Food Centre every night. With the right balance of sweet and savoury, their char kway teow doesn?t have the overpowering sweet sauce taste that some people detest. On top of having the right balance, they add a ridiculously generous serving of fresh cockles, a good amount of wok hei taste, and is fairly dry (thankfully not wet and mushy).

Also, considering how the food centre?s pretty near Zouk, you might want to visit 18 Zion Road fried Kway Teow before you get on with your crazy night eh?

    Gu Thai Noodle Cafe

You’ve probably walked past PoMo, but have never set foot into it before. Don’t worry, you’re not alone. The small mall is situated on Selegie Road near Dhoby Ghaut MRT.

You won’t miss the distinct red sign at the side walk where you can enter from, but it’s definitely more welcoming from the other side, within the mall.

I found the overall space quite dark and I’d recommend grabbing a seat out front as it was a bit more cluttered towards the back. The wooden tables and stools provided the place with an atmosphere similar to dining on the bustling streets of Thailand.

The staff are also Thai, so you can expect to find dishes that are very close to what you’ll get in the Land of Smiles.

Everyone enjoys Thai food differently and a choice of condiments at each table makes it easy to customise the flavour of your dishes with the addition of extra chilli flakes, sugar, chilli soy sauce and fish sauce.

Ah Chiang's Porridge (Tiong Poh Rd)

Ah Chiang's Porridge offers some of the best Chinese cuisines in Singapore, serving a tantalizing collection of dishes that are suitable for group gatherings and casual dining. It presents a variety of dishes, so there is something for everyone on the menu.

This old school shop is located along the road, so it was fun to just chill out without loud music booming in the background or the sound of people slamming dishes. Nostalgic ambience to have breakfast.Located along Tiong Poh Road, Ah Chiang's Porridge is only a few minutes away from Outram Park, Tiong Bahru MRT station.

Through many years of frying the local delights of char kway teow and hokkien prawn noodles, this stall has gained its reputation for being one of the best in town that serves their avid patrons who revisit it often. Relocated to different places, the taste still remains as good and deliciously yummy.

Worth the wait even if there’s a beeline for it.

    Fatty Thai

Fatty thai is surely a Drool-Worthy Thai Wanton Mee Along Beach Road.

It is a 2-week-old Fatty Thai is the newest stall in Lim Si Mi Caf?.

Run by three 22 year olds, Edmund, Darryll and Wei Zhe, Fatty Thai’s story is a rather peculiar one.

Edmund shared that the trio was having a holiday in Thailand and was nursing a hangover.

The first thing that they had was a Thai-style wonton mee at a random street stall, and things rolled into motion since then.

The wanton mee, which was drier as compared to the saucy Singapore counterpart, gave them the inspiration to start their own business and bring Thai-style wanton mee to Singapore.

Fun fact: The stall was named Fatty Thai because the three hawkers are all chubby

Eng Kee Bak Kut Teh 永记肉骨茶

Best Bak Kut Teh in Ang Mo Kio. I was surprised on the quality of the Ribs.

I have tried many Bak Kut Teh stores, each with their unigue winning points, but this one is the best in its overall score.

The white coloured meat is quite tender compared with others and the amount of and fat meat is not too much and just of the right mix. we did not try the You Tiao as it was out of stock.

However, we tried the Gong Fu Char (Chinese tea) and it was quite good. The chai Buay (vege)and rice are of normal standard though. We saw an AngMo there queueing up also.

    Soon Soon Teochew Porridge

I just discovered a place near my house that sells pretty good Teochew Muay and since then I have gone back there for my Teochew Muay fix a couple of times.

I like this place because the flavours are bold and not watered down. You need bold flavours because the beauty of Teochew Muay is to put something full of salty umami into your mouth and then wash it down with a mouthful of hot “Ahm” (porridge water).

Ahh… it does wonders especially on a rainy day. Comfort food you can eat everyday.
