The Hidden Dim Sum Kitchen in Sunshine Plaza.

Victor’s Kitchen is definitely not an easy place to find even though it’s so close to town.

I mean, they don’t even have a website or Facebook page! Their reputation is purely word-of-mouth and patronized by the people who pass by Sunshine plaza and see some crazy queue during lunch.

I stopped by around 3pm, which is why the place looks so vacant. But trust me, it’s a completely different story during meal time.

I got a good shot of how Victor’s Kitchen looks when it’s empty, which is a very bare minimum setup with whatever random tables and chairs they could find at the value store.

A very unpretentious place to walk in for some afternoon dim sum just like in Hong Kong.

Most coffeeshop places that are popular have that grouchy Aunty who has served one too many customers, but I’m glad to say Victor’s Kitchen’s aunties were pleasant and friendly even after a tiring afternoon session.

Victor’s Kitchen still has an overall good standard, but they have raised prices considerably and now individual dim sum’s are actually in the restaurant price range, even though there is no service charge or GST.

Still a good place to visit, but not as value for money as before.

Go early to avoid long queue. We would like to invite all customers to give this place a try.

If you are a fan of Dian Xiao Er’s herbal roast duck, then you should be happy to know about this little hawker stall in Golden Mile food centre which serves a similar herbal roast duck!

If you have never tried herbal roast duck before, then now you can have a small portion served with rice for as little as $4.50.

The duck here is very good and I find the herbal sauce rather moreish.

It is a little on the sweet side, but it complements the duck really well. Well worth the trip!

Good to see hawkers making restaurant food more accessible to the masses. If you haven’t had herbal roast duck before, this is a good place to start.

    Ye Ji Cooked Food 葉记菜饭

Located in Chinatown Complex Market & Food Centre, Ye Ji Cooked Food is a must-try.

Famous for its Snakehead fish fillet and Cantonese dishes, Ye Ji Cooked Food has other options too.

I was happy to see a lot of dishes that my mother and grandmother cooked at home such as the Drunken Chicken and Minced-Meat Steamed Egg.

So it was no surprise that those dishes were what I ended up ordering.

The chicken was very tender and the taste of Chinese wine went along with the mushrooms.

They were very generous with the gravy too. As for the egg, I was glad that it was not overcooked.

Steamed egg in particular is easily overcooked but Ye Ji Cooked Food does it just right.

The steamed egg was bouncy but still maintained its smooth texture on top.

    HOCK HAI CURRY CHICKEN NOODLE

Hock Hai is another crowd pleaser that you will have to be prepared to queue for.

The former is their most popular offering, boasting a rich and thick gravy that is has a nice kick yet isn’t overly spicy.

Walking around in Bedok Hawker Centre, it is hard not to notice the long queues for Hock Hai Curry Chicken Noodles.

This stall has been around for many years; even before the renovation of the hawker centre in 2013, but business remains just as good.

Upon a closer look, you’ll see a huge pot of curry filled with ingredients, and smell the aroma of freshly cooked curry.

It was extremely hard to resist and I’ve found myself queuing up for this bowl of noodles many times.

The business was so good that the old couple was constantly seen replenishing ingredients into the boiling curry.

Unfortunately, I did not get any potatoes in my bowl, maybe the Aunty forgot to include them, or they needed more cooking time?

The curry was very rich and fragrant and had a very traditional and homely feel to it, just like how my grandma used to cook it.

I could taste the different spices as well as the coconut milk in it, but the coconut taste was not overpowering.

The curry was not spicy, but there is a bowl of sambal chilli at the front counter for you to add in according to your preference.

Hock Hai Curry Chicken Noodles serves up humble comfort food at a reasonable price.

It is difficult to find affordable and good hawker fare these days but this stall is definitely one of my favourites and I hope that it sticks around for many more years to come.

This is the stall to visit for a sinful supper fix.

Expect to wait at least 45 minutes before the plate of delicious Hokkien Mee appears in front of your eyes.

The broth is simmered with tip-top quality prawns and pork bones for 3 hours hence, bringing out the sweetness of the prawns.

The owner fries the noodles till each strand has fully absorbed the broth.

We love the aromatic plate of goodness, you should pair it with their secret recipe chilli sauce for the ultimate satisfaction.

Traditional Famous Prawn Mee is a humble food stall that offers a delightful dining experience with their menu featuring delicious Chinese and Singaporean cuisines.

Located at [email protected] and just a few minutes away from Bishan MRT Station, Traditional Famous Prawn Mee is a great place where family and friends can share and enjoy delectable dishes in a comfortable and relaxed setting.

The noodles were cooked well, and the soup was alright. However, there are better stalls which have tastier soups. It came with prawns, fish cake and sliced lean pork.

Decent noodles with a short wait time in the queue.

    Dim Sum Haus

A Delicious Dim Sum that is Below $5 At Jalan Besar.

Dim Sum Haus caught my attention when I saw that it sells charcoal siew mai, and I knew I had to head down to Jalan Besar to give it a try.

The shop is brightly lit and minimally furnished in wooden accents, with pictures of its signature dishes hung on the wall so you’ll know what to order.

Although this eatery doesn’t exude an old school charm, it was comfortable having dim sum in an air-conditioned environment.

Moreover, the standard of the food here is not bad, and the dishes are reasonably priced.

Next time your dim sum cravings kick in, you can consider trying Dim Sum Haus.
